WESCO delivers for the Food Processing Industry
Case Studies
Problem:
Major food processing plants found their procurement, accounting, receiving, and storeroom personnel overburdened by the time required to generate purchase orders, process invoices, receive, stock, and count low-cost electrical materials.
WESCO Solution:
Low-cost, labor-intensive electrical items are now maintained at these facilities on an inventory keep-fill program. WESCO personnel inventory, order, and stock the items on a weekly basis, offloading the burden from the plants personnel to issue weekly purchase orders, process weekly invoices, receive or count parts, stock shelves, or perform cycle counts for the items. In addition, WESCO provides monthly stocking reports to enable the plants to identify usage patterns and take corrective action if needed.
Result:
$33,935 Annual Savings in Productivity and Service Improvements!
Problem:
A food processing facility in
Kansas City needed assistance in
managing and maintaining its inventory
of electrical materials.
WESCO Solution:
WESCO issued
a credit of $40,000 to buy back the facility’s
inventory. Inventory is maintained on-site for immediate
availability and is counted weekly to ensure that stock is
always available on hand for any emergency that may arise.
Result:
$40,000 in Inventory Reduction plus $17,000 in Administrative and
Service Improvements!
Problem:
A large food processing
company has approximately 15,000
400W metal halide lighting fixtures
operating in plants throughout the
country. Based on a conservative 5
cents per kWh, these fixtures annually
cost about $2.748 million to operate.
WESCO Solution:
As the old 400W lamps fail, simply
replacing them with a Philips MS360/BU/EW metal halide
lamp achieves a 40W savings per bulb. The new lamp
operates on the same ballast, carries the same 20,000-
hour life rating, and offers the same 36,000 initial lumens,
but saves $240,000 annually companywide. Because
many plants pay higher utility rates than 5 cents per kWh
and may have longer daily burn times, your savings may
be even greater than average.
Result:
$240,000 in Annual
Energy Savings!
Problem:
A food processing facility
in Burr Ridge, Illinois, needed a motor/AC
drive power-matched system for a new
ammonia compressor.
WESCO Solution:
Working with
one of their engineers, WESCO designed
a system that delivered the required
performance and helped save energy. The new system
enabled the facility to fully utilize the new ammonia
compressor and take other compressors offline, saving
$96,000 in annual energy costs.
Result:
$96,000 Annual Energy Savings!
